Science, Mythology, Hatred, and the Fate of the Gray Wolf

Ken Salazar, the new Secretary of Interior, has decided to remove the gray wolf from the endangered species list on Idaho and Montana. The release program began with 65 wolves in 1995 and has been successful with numbers of 1,600 across the region. Humans had drove the species to almost extection and now that the numbers are up he will remove them from the list and began their second slow journey to extection.
Ken also stated that he will be the first to stand in line for a hunting licence when hunting seasons is open to control the population. He also stated that he would like to see the population to be 100 in Idaho, which is way below the state management plan of 800.
I think that it maybe more of a personal choice to remove the gray wolf because he seems to want a trophy wolf a great deal. My opinion is that he is some what stupid for stating that he will be the first in line for a licence. I also believe that if we made the efforts to re populate the breed, why would we then once again destroy it. The article is found at www.nytimes.com/2009/04/13/opinion/13mon4.html?_r=1

Tenn. House will vote on abortion amendment

The resolution, SJR 127, would allow lawmakers to re-establish requirements for women seeking an abortion to wait 48 hours before the procedure and all first term abortions to be preformed in hospitals. The Senate has approved the amendment( which usually happens), and will come before the house in 2010.
I think that this will be a good thing and I hope that each state will follow. I believe that abortion should only be preformed when certain medical issues, rape are involved. I believe that if women would step up and take their responsibilities serious, that we would have less need for abortions. If there is need for abortion, I think that it should be preformed in a hospital setting for the sake and health of the patient. I also believe that the 48 hour wait is a good thing, if gives the woman time to think about it and seek counseling. Mad about Michelle

-
http://www.thenation.com/doc/20090420/pollitt?rel=hp_currentlyThis article was a great piece about how everyone is attacking Obama's wife Michelle. She is now in the nations light but there was criticism about her dress, her community involvement and the fact that she is physically fit. Are we as American citizens never satisfied. I think not. We elect who we think will make a good president and then tare every aspect about their lives apart and that includes their wives. I think that most people feel intimidated by women like Michelle. That they must find something wrong with them to make their own selves feel better. You can find the article at

In Wichita a jury ruled unanimous that Dr. Tiller was not guilty of illegal late term abortion. He was charged with 19 misdemeanor charges for allegedly violating a state law requiring an independent second physicians concurring opinion before preforming late term abortions. This is a subject that gets alot of media attention. I believe that a woman shoud have the right to have the choice to terminate a pregancy if there is a medical reason or a rape. There is a need for children for adoption and that could be filled with the unwanted children that surivie the choice. I also believe that the father should have a right in the saying. It is true that he doesn't ahve to carry the baby and go through the process but it did take him produce the baby in question. I think if the father is willing to take care of the baby that the mother shoud step up and keep the pregancy and terminat her rights when the baby is born so the father can take care of the baby.

http://www.feminist.org/news/newsbyte/printnews.asp?id=11568I recently read an article that was about the Catholic Church of Brazil had plans to excommunicate those who aided a child pregnant as result of rape. They plan to excommunicate the mother of the girl, the doctors involved. The girl, who was nine at the time was pregnant with twins as a result of a rape by her step-father. the bishop stated that it was a sad case but the real problem is that the twins that were involved were innocent people. The doctors stated that the pregnancy would have been fatal for the girl. You can read this article at

I recently read a article on the criminal justice system. The United States has the highest reported incarceration rate in the world, more than 1 in 100 adults are in jail. The incarceration rate is rising faster that the crime rate, which is hard to believe. The high incarceration rate is blamed upon the three strikes rule. I believe that we do need to take a long look at our justice system, that we are keeping people in jail for minor offences that we would be able to solve with community service or a lesser punishment. I think this would cut down on the cost on the individual state cost. The article is found athttp://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/opinion/30monl.html

Human Trafficking

I recently read an article on human trafficking. According to the data collected human trafficking is a serious problem that most countries don't take serious. Seventy nine percent of human trafficking is for sexual exploitation and twenty percent are children. In Africa almost all of the majority is children. The second type of human trafficking is forced labor and that makes up for eighteen percent of trafficking. Authorities believe that this is a low percent because forced labor is not reported in some countries. The article is found at unodc.org/unodc/en/frontpage/unodc-report-on-human-trafficking-exposes-mo
